Kolner Poliment Armenian Red clay bole is used in water gilding. It is applied on top of the gesso and enhances the tone and luster of the gold during the polishing/burnishing process.
An adhesive must be added to the Poliment, rabbit skin glue is the preferred adhesive. You can mix different Poliment colors together to achieve a custom tone to your gold. You will have an extremely bright and shiny gold leaf after burnishing the gold leaf with an agate burnisher.
Poliment is mixed with Rabbit Skin Glue before use, and is applied in 2 to 4 thin layers before the gold or other leaf is applied. After completely dry, the leaf can be polished with an agate burnisher.
